Betrayed by one you trusted

Today’s devotion

This morning, I urge you to read all of Psalm 55. In it, you will find a description of betrayal by a close friend, maybe a spouse…one who is an oppressor.  Verse 3 says: “The oppression of the wicked…They drop trouble upon me, and in anger they bear a grudge against me” Verse 12-14 says: “For it is not an enemy who taunts me, then I could bear it; it is not an adversary who deals insolently with me, then I could hide from him. But it is you, a man, my equal, my companion, my familiar friend. We used to take sweet counsel together.” Verses 20-21 says: “My companion stretched out his hand against his friends (maybe you); he violated his covenant. His speech was smooth as butter, yet war was in his heart; his words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords.”

Do these words of David describe your situation with your oppressor? If so, then also read what God does when David turns to Him. In verse 16: But I call to God, and the Lord will save me…he hears my voice”. And verse 22: “Cast your burden on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved”.

David knows, in verses 18-19 that: “God redeems his, (yours and David’s) soul in safety the battle that he wages. He knows that “God will give ear and humble them, (the oppressors) … because they do not fear God.”

Please know, today, sweet sisters, that God knows all that you are experiencing. He is not fooled. He is with you. Keep casting your burdens on Him…Keep trusting Him. He has a plan!
